What’s next for the OGS?

So we’ve reached the halfway point in our season.

We’ve had two spectacular events,  a celebration of the ‘Concieto de Aranjuez’ with the incredible Remi Boucher, and our wonderful “Annual Guitar Night”. As well, we’ve been able to feature a couple of outstanding local performers in our Young Artist Series.

These events have shown us that there is a demand for high quality classical guitar performances in the area, and we are happy to provide such a service!!!!

So, what’s next for the OGS?

Well, the board is constantly planning things, but let’s start with what we know.

In January, we will welcome Duo NoMa for a full concert through our Young Artist Series. Duo NoMa is made up of Marlène Demers-Lemay (a UOttawa guitar graduate) and
Noémy Braun (cello). The duo met in Switzerland, and since moving back to Canada (Montreal), the duo has been featured through the Montreal Guitar Society, and around Montreal. For those of you that were able to make it out to our “Annual Guitar Night”, we were given a taste of the talents of this duo when they performed a short set of South American music. It goes without saying that we’re all very excited to hear this great ensemble in a full concert!

In February, we join the cast of the Alla Grande Festival and welcome back to Ottawa, the absolutely incredible Pavel Steidl. For those of you that have never seen or heard of Pavel, stop reading this blog, go look him up, be amazed, then come back to the blog and finish reading this post. Yes, he’s that good. For more information on Pavel’s concert, and the entire Alla Grande festival, please click on this link http://guitarallagrande.org/pavel-steidl/

And in April we welcome Canadian guitarist Steve Cowan to Ottawa, for our last headlining concert of the season. Some of you may remember Steve from being apart of our Young Artist Series a couple of years ago. Well, after winning a couple of international competitions, including the Montreal International Guitar Competition, we felt like it is time to bring him in as apart of our main concert season.

Steve is a unique voice in both the concert hall and in the competition circuit. While many people specialize in a typical genre of music, for example Spanish music, the music of Segovia, Italian music, etc… Steve’s specialty is in Canadian music! That’s right, there are Canadian composers creating music in Canada!!! While Steve is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music degree at McGill, he is also extremely active in commissioning and performing contemporary Canadian music. I’m sure we will all be willing to open our ears up to the sounds of this very big country!!!

And now, for the things that aren’t quite as official yet.

We will be hosting more members concerts in the coming months. Remember, these concerts are a friendly setting were everyone gets to play!

Also, be on the look-out for OGS open mic nights. This is an idea we’re trying out, and we’d love to see you there!

And we will probably try to sneak in another Young Artist concert in March.

So make sure you keep up-to-date through the blog, facebook, our website, or through the email-list!

Ready? Let’s go!!!
